DAY 1

      —Visitors often use the U-Bahn (subway) and the S-Bahn (local train) network.

    • Those with heavy luggage: Use an Uber * for a direct door-to-door transfer.

    • The Savvy Shortcut: Take the S7 S-Bahn train directly to Wien Mitte. It drops you right at the edge of the historic center. (Good nearby hotels: Hilton Vienna Park, InterContinental, or Marriott).

    • Hotels located in the center of Vienna (Innere Stadt) are significantly more expensive than Wien Mitte, because you pay for prestige and being right on Vienna’s historic streets.

  • Evening: Settle into your hotel (Innere Stadt is the most historic neighborhood, though Wien Mitte offers better value).
    Grab a casual dinner and map out your next two days.

  • Those visitors arriving from the Vienna Hbf Train station, transfer by taxi, Uber, or by U-Bahn.

    • 🚆 Getting to “the City Center” from the Train Station, take the U-Bahn:

      1. Follow the signs for the U1 subway line (it’s a big blue "U" icon). Take the U1 train
        heading toward Leopoldau. Exit at Stephansplatz. This is the very heart of the city center with many hotels.

  • Arriving by 🚢 river cruise ships. Most dock beside Vienna’s famous Reichsbrücke.

    • From the dock, visitors can walk to the U1 subway at Vorgartenstraße to reach the city center. Location

    • The Ultimate Walk: Stroll the Ringstraße. Tip: It’s a circular road around the city center that passes most of Vienna’s famous buildings.

      What you’ll see on this walk:

      • Vienna State Opera: The world-famous opera house.

      • Parliament Building: It looks like a giant Greek temple.

      • Rathaus: This is the beautiful, Gothic City Hall.
