1. 🔴 Equatorial Zone
Location: Near the equator (0° latitude, typically between ~5°N and ~5°S)
Climate Type: Tropical rainforest
Temperature: Hot and stable year-round (average 77–91°F / 25–33°C)
Rainfall: Very high and evenly distributed year-round (often >2000 mm/year)
Seasons: No real seasons—always warm and wet
Humidity: Extremely high
Examples: Amazon Basin (Brazil), Congo Basin (Africa), Indonesia, Singapore
2. 🟠 Subequatorial Zone
Location: Just north and south of the equatorial zone (~5–10° to 15° latitude)
Climate Type: Tropical monsoon or tropical savanna
Temperature: Warm to hot year-round
Rainfall: Seasonal—distinct wet and dry seasons
Seasons:
Wet season: Usually in the high-sun (summer) months
Dry season: Usually in the low-sun (winter) months
Humidity: Varies—humid in wet season, drier otherwise
Examples: Parts of India, northern Australia, parts of Central Africa
3. 🟡 Tropical Zone
Location: Between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn (~23.5°N to 23.5°S)
Climate Type: Encompasses equatorial, subequatorial, savanna, and tropical monsoon
Temperature: Always warm or hot
Rainfall: Varies—can be extremely wet (rainforest) or seasonally dry (savanna)
Seasons: Often just wet and dry seasons, not four seasons
Examples: Brazil, India, Southeast Asia, parts of Central America
4. 🌵 Subtropical Zone
Location: Just outside the tropics (~23.5° to 35° latitude)
Climate Type: Subtropical humid, Mediterranean, desert
Temperature: Hot summers, mild to cool winters
Rainfall: Highly variable—can be dry (deserts) or moderately wet (Mediterranean)
Seasons: Often have hot summers and mild winters, some with dry summers
Examples: Southern U.S., Mediterranean basin, parts of China, northern Australia
5. 🟢 Temperate Zone
Location: Between 23.5° and 66.5° latitude in both hemispheres
Climate Type: Varied—includes oceanic, Mediterranean, continental, etc.
Temperature:
Moderate, with four distinct seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter)
Can be hot in summer and cold (even snowy) in winter
Rainfall: Moderate to high; may occur year-round or seasonally depending on sub-type.
Examples: Much of the United States, Europe, China, southern South America.
6. ❄️ Subpolar (Subarctic) Zone
Location: Between 50° and 66.5° latitude, just below the polar regions
Climate Type: Subarctic (taiga or boreal forest)
Temperature:
Short, mild summers (50–70°F / 10–21°C)
Long, bitterly cold winters
Rainfall: Low to moderate, often snow-heavy in winter (300–500 mm/year or more)
Seasons: Two main ones:
Long, harsh winters
Short summers
Examples: Much of Alaska, northern Canada, most of Siberia, parts of northern Scandinavia
7. 🔵 Polar Zone
Location: Above 66.5° latitude (Arctic and Antarctic Circles)
Climate Type: Polar tundra or ice cap
Temperature:
Very cold year-round
Summer temperatures rarely exceed 50°F (10°C)
Winter temperatures can plunge below -40°F (-40°C)
Rainfall: Very low — dry, often <250 mm/year (technically a cold desert)
Seasons:
Long, dark, frigid winters
Short, cool summers with nearly 24-hour daylight
Humidity: Low
Examples: Antarctica, Greenland interior, northernmost Canada, Siberia, Arctic Ocean islands
