RHODES, GREECE 4 DAYS

Rhodes, the largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands, is known for its beach resorts. The island has been blessed with many wonderful, long stretches of beach, as well as many small, sandy coves, almost hidden. The city of Rhodes has an Old Town featuring the medieval Street of the Knights and the castle-like Palace of the Grand Masters.

  • Arrive by air: Rhodes International Airport (RHO), also known as Diagoras International Airport. [Aegean Airlines]

  • Arrive by ferry: You can reach Rhodes by ferry from Athens (Piraeus port), as there are routes 4 to 5 times per week. However, the trip takes from 16 to 18 hours.

    • Apart from Athens, Rhodes also has ferries connecting Santorini, Mykonos, Patmos, Crete, and other islands, but trips
are long and tiring — most visitors fly instead.

  • The island has buses, taxis, and car rentals. Two bus companies (RODA and KTEL) operate separately and do not share tickets or stations.

🏄 Most popular water activities on the Island:

  • Just relax on the beautiful beaches.

  • The best beaches are on the east side of the island between Faliraki and Lindos. The east coast of Rhodes is elegant and highly organized.

    • The western side of the island (where the airport is) tends to be windier, with rougher beaches.

‍ ‍Other highlights on Rhodes:

  • Top 10 Things to Do

  • Wander through Rhodes’ Old Town, a labyrinth of cobbled lanes and medieval charm.

    • Visit the Palace of the Grand Masters. This well-preserved medieval castle was erected as a Byzantine citadel in the late 7th century.

    • The most beautiful and interesting part of the Old Town is the Street of Knights, the most important street of the medieval town. The street is completely restored or preserved beautifully, and is lined by medieval buildings.

  • Visit Lindos.

    • Lindos is famous for its Acropolis and the ancient monuments at its summit, but also for its Byzantine and medieval history.

      • The Lindos Acropolis rises above the town and sits atop a 116-meter-high hillock overlooking the scenic coastline. On the summit, you’ll find ancient ruins of the Temple of Athena from the 4th century BC.

    • Rhodes Old Town to Lindos is 47 km and takes about 1 hour by car. Lindos village is car-free. You will have to park in one of the lots above the town (expect to pay about €7) and walk down.

‍ ‍Where to stay:

  • Lindos — the best and most delightful place to stay on the island. Here, you will witness whitewashed houses, a hilltop acropolis, and some of the best beaches on the island!

  • Rhodes Old Town — another favorite place to stay is the Old Town — it's more traditional, cheaper, and feels like a Medieval time capsule. History surrounds you, and there’s plenty to do.

  • Faliraki — The northern end is now home to some of the most luxurious, 5-star resorts on the island (like the Elysium or Mitsis Alila).

    • It’s no longer just for party-goers; it’s actually the island’s top family-friendly destination because it has the longest sandy beach and shallow, calm water (unlike the windy West Coast).

  • Pefkos—perfect for visitors who prefer a more romantic getaway.

    • Pefkos is a relaxed place to stay. It has picture-perfect beaches with sun loungers and a lively main street full of cocktail bars and British-style pubs.
