BERMUDA 5 days

Bermuda, with its capital Hamilton, is a small island in the North Atlantic Ocean famous for pink-sand beaches like Elbow Beach and Horseshoe Bay. It combines British and American cultures. English is the main language, and some people also speak Portuguese. The economy mainly depends on tourism and international finance.

The island has a subtropical climate and is prone to severe weather but is partly shielded by a surrounding coral reef that lessens storm impact. Bermuda faces a damaging tropical cyclone about once every six to seven years. Because the island is small, direct hits are rare. From 1906 to 2006, most hurricane threats happened between early September and late October.

    1. Why is Bermuda sand pink?

—Bermuda’s pink sand comes from a species of red foraminifera which is a marine organism growing on the coral reefs surrounding the island. The red foraminifera breaks off into the white sand because of fish feeding on the algae growing on the coral as well as with the power of the water moving around. This red/pink organism is what makes Bermuda’s sand pink.
